Re: I have HUGE news about re-released beads.
I am sad I won't be able to add the few remaining retireds I would like to own to my collection... (just to make it clear, I don't own the rest, not by a long shot!! I just mean that there are only a couple of the old ones that I'd still like )
But for many reasons that I have voiced before, I am glad that Trollbeads will not (for the time being anyway) be re-releasing old retired beads. If it is true of course. And none of my reasons have anything to do with the perceived value of my so called 'collection', which realistically is a (fair) few pieces of glass and silver, never bought for their perceived 'worth' as in value, just their worth to me. I also don't care about the 'hunt' or that other people should have to go to the lengths I have done to find rare beads. My reasons are pretty much solely because I think it would affect Trollbeads longevity as a brand by removing the collectability and second hand market,, and I want Trollbeads to be around for a long time to come!
And just an observation, anyone who owns a bracelet of Trollbeads could 'afford' almost every one of the old retireds on the retired market; people choose to spend their money on 20+ other beads instead of 1 retired... but they have that choice. I'm not suggesting that the retireds are worth the ridiculous prices paid (maybe only to crazy collectors like me), but I'm just saying that the whole situation isn't as simple as saying that not everyone can 'afford' to pay the crazy amounts on the secondary market. People may not think they are worth the high prices, but most people here have spent that money on (more) trollbeads already.
The few retireds I have bought were worth to me what I paid. lots of people feel the same or the prices would not be as high. And I wear every one of them more regularly than other beads because I love them more, simple as that.
I am sad for the people who love the old designs and are not willing to pay the high prices and so will never get the beads they really want... but then perhaps the desire to own the beads is not really that strong? Sorry, just my opinion. I would prefer to have one bead I have wanted for years than 20 production beads I just like... even if it meant my collection built more slowly. Of course only people who don't buy for profit and don't buy with the thought that they can always sell the beads to get some money back if they need it would feel this way. I am never scared of my beads being 'worthless' to others; they will always be worth something to me.
I really hope that TB bring out some amazing patterned 'old' style beads in the next release... and that people don't not buy them just because they are widely available... (if the joyful had just been returned to the production line the cynical part of me wonders if sales would be so high).
Sorry for the essay

I once was in a store that stored the retired beads in a vault that way they can bring them out later and sell them for more... Trollbead retailers are allowed to charge more than retail for the beads...

Re: I have HUGE news about re-released beads.
Unfortunately I think the days of the exciting chase for old retireds are long gone...having a weekend away in Copenhagen and passing the days going from store to store by bus and train, rummaging for hidden treasures, those were the days!! Adding things to your watchlist on ebay and watching the price immediately climb out of your reach somehow doesn't have the same buzz for me, especially when it's non-devotees profiteering . So I'm happy for Trollbeads to throw us devotees a few crumbs now and again (but if they don't, please at least throw us some proper Trollish designs in future releases)

I still love the way friends will sell rare beads to each other for what we paid though, often great prices, and never out for profit. I love how Trollbeads brings people together in this way, as though none of us agree with those who deliberately buy up any 'bargain' rare beads just to sell on for a profit...
I am yet to purchase a bead from ebay. Or a retailer or 'trader' who deal in retireds. This isn't waht it is about for me, no matter how much I may desire a bead. I would prefer to wait for a trade or for a friend who wants to pass one on.

As a fairly new collector (3yrs) i have missed the days Splinty describes above, and there are some beads so rare that I will probably never even see one IRL. I think that careful re-releases would give me a choice that I won't have otherwise? I do wonder which of the current beads will become so highly sought after once they are retired??

You do have a point. However, those who cannot or choose not to pay 20 production beads' worth for one retired may be making a decision about the purchase based on factors other than desirability. They don't necessarily desire the bead less or not enough to buy it. These sky high prices open the door to profiteering, fakes and copies, and all this for a bead that be easily re-produced. These are not Vermeers or Rembrandts, not even Eskes (who I think still makes them in his studio).

I know!! We've had Find a Smiley, let's have Find an Oldie They could just remake a few of the most desireds and sneak them into the order deliveries around the world. That would increase footfall in their shops a hundred fold...we'd all be popping in non-stop hoping to find an oldie sitting on the rack winking at us

Additional thoughts: I should say "for the immediate future" all plans have ceased as far as making any more old beads over again. As for the distant future...well you know business. Decisions in the business world are changed all the time so I think I'll leave it open to what may happen a few years out.
this certainly wasn't there when i last read it. lol

congrats for joining the forum, and don't feel intimidated by the replies to your post, and i bet there will be more to come, but please come back to the forum and stick around. i differ with you, as i only recently started collecting, but i can see where you are coming from. i think there are newer members, fairly new, like myself and Stacecase, we both started collecting past december, so around 3 months only. and i think we are both devotees to troll. i think there should be a clear difference, a hallmark stamp or the size, something, to differ from the original, but be pretty close. so both who owns the original and who is buying the re release for its design, not for status, will be pleased.
what joins us here is our love for beads, so will be really nice to see you again here, speaking up for yourself and all!

Really well said, Engel. You are living up to your name. Nice post! This thread has got - how can I put it nicely? - quite heated in places, so its really lovely to see someone with a different viewpoint reaching out to someone with the opposite viewpoint.
I happen to agree with carols, and feel this is the right decision for various reasons, but I do also feel sorry for those of you who are disappointed. Its now a no-win situation because one group of people will be disappointed. I also agree with Lollipop about looking forward rather than backwards. But I didn't believe - even before the additional post on the blog - that we would never see another re-release again from TBs!! So perhaps those elusive beads will be back after all........ I hope its a big version of Dots or Pyramids - that was such a clever idea by Dansketroll (a few posts back).

Re: I have HUGE news about re-released beads.
trust me
i do not have deep pockets.. with respect, don't make assumptions about others you do not know..
to me a collectible is what we individually make of it.. equisite.. desirable .. and mostly enjoyable.. if your not willing to make the time for the challenge then it must not be truly important to you... anything that we value is worth making the time for.. no matter what it is..
like lollipop i believe that each collector needs to get out of Trollbeads what they are looking for.. if it is enjoyment... if it is owning an equisite piece of jewellery.. if it is for the fun.. by all means.. but no matter what your motive in my opinion that that doesn't mean getting a free ride...
..also i think that we all have a right to our opinion and because i express mine.. as a collector of Trollbeads.. then that comment requires respect and consideration and not being called a name like 'grumbler'.. so it is my opinion that i do not agree to have re-releases of previously retired trollbeads.. and like many others there are many retireds that i would like but cannot access.. so i add to my collection with the wonderful new releases.... and dream about the illusives.. it adds to the magic of being a Trollbead collector..
and i also believe that if anyone comments on this site then they truly are lucky to live a life where they can call themself a collector of a collectible that is the magic of Trollbeads...

I don't want to chase beads, I want to buy them for a reasonable price and wear them. And I don't see any difference between "new" and "old" collectors. Just because we don't want to pay $900 for a crane doesn't make us less of a "devotee" as you say.
I used to be a serious 'Collector' (antique books, ceramics, ethnic jewellery, cacti etc.) and enjoy the thrill of the chase. It did not make me happy and I burned a huge amount of money doing it. None of the items that I collected are worth the 'bargain' prices that I paid for them now. I am not going to join the Bead Hunters. I think it would be unwise.
I want a Crane to wear on my pretty bracelet.

Re: I have HUGE news about re-released beads.
Carols, who cares if your a grumbler? that's okay, you felt strongly enough to have an opinion and stand by it. Wear it with pride, I'm a massive GRUMBLER, please don't see it as a personal attack. But with respect, you mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger. Why shouldn't we be able to access certain beads? Why should you have to dream about the illusive beads or are you worried about quantitative easing? Because that is not the magic of collecting either, that imposing limits on yourself over a fashionable bead. Which might not stay fashionable if we all remain so focused on retired beads. Maybe, if TBHQ re-released 10 ...15 old beads we could all move on to the future together, you've got to give the public what they want!...
and I want a CRANE!! ha ha!
I also know that a few are worried that we will all end up with the same bracelet, well, we are all individuals and personality will always shine through, no matter what beads are available.

Re: I have HUGE news about re-released beads.
Even if Trollbeads would re-release some oldies, I am pretty sure you can see a difference with the old ones. I do think that even Trollbeads could not have expected that some beads would turn out to be highly sought after or in high demand even after that specific bead has left the collection. And be honest, 6 years ago, we hadn't heard about Limited editions, world tour beads, let alone that the word retired would become so important to some of us. The number of collectors wasn't that high as it is now, and also the number of beads being produced was much lower compared to the quantities they bring on the market nowadays.
Personally I think that the beads that were in the collection and were retired in 2006 will always have something magical, simply because of the designs and less fuss about it. The beads that are now in the collection, can not be compared to the older ones. And what Pandabee wrote earlier, thank god for making us all different, so in that way I think the chances are small that we all end up with exact the same beads on a bracelet.
Coming back to where I started with, I think that if Trollbeads will re-release older beads again, they are clever enough to make sure that a slight difference can be seen. There are plenty of other cases with re-releases, think for instance about the Fiat 500, Mini, and Volkswagen Beetle. The re-released cars have found their way to new fans, probably fans who adored the old verslons but who were never able for various reasons to own one of the oldies. Releasing these old models according to Modern times has not been bad at all for these manufacturers.
Meanwhile I enjoy what I have got, but I also enjoy stories from others about their beads. You can not have it all in life, a good health is far more important, just as other little things, that you sometimes take for granted, but when it comes to it, they are not.

Michelle please don't feel sad about other opinions. Everyone has a right to feel and express their own, it's not a game about the strongest opinions.
A lot has been said about this issue, but the bottom line for all of us is: be happy with your own collection, no matter what others (or HQ) do, say or think. We will never be in complete agreement over this subject I think, but isn't that what a forum is all about? There must be things to talk about :-))

Re: I have HUGE news about re-released beads.
Thank You tinka for the kind coments.
I read daisylove coments and I agree the mini beetle cars are released but I will say they are not from the original mold so they are moden versions of the classic. I have no worry if trollbeads do this to a old bead. The rely on a faint LAA stamp on a old mold is not good enough. I feel this was tryed with the silver whorl and it failed to work out.
