I agree there is no clear message they are retired, I thought it was a dealers hoax.. In particular as they are currently being sold on ebay at twice the price.
Re: About tulips....
Wow! Thanks for sharing the different tulips! Great idea!

Re: About tulips....
Love the tulips. Especially love the Trollbead tulip. I did go an investigate the purchase, but by the time shipping and fees are added it is just too much for. I did acquire the Sunflower VanGogh bead and that will be my Dutch bead. Spent a year as a child in the Netherlands so it is a special reminder bead.

Re: About tulips....
buying a dutch tulip direct would now cost you shipping to canada or usa about
$90 USA dollars that.s because of the shipping cost . and it included the book So I think that's quite reasonable, having seen those prices I am sitting on my "spare unused" tulips and books think of it as an investment after all if they don't treble in price in a few years, I get to wear them or gift them ;-) So sakyubc what price did you find? As I checked what the dutch jeweller was charging and the 90dollars seemed quite reasonable I was lucky I did a batch order and only got 1 charge ;-) from my personal jeweller in amersfoort.
I also think that they are being sold easier right now, as dutch dealers have caught on there is a demand this has pushed the high price ebayers out of action.. For Now.

Re: About tulips....
And there are quite a few Dutch Trollfairies more than happy to help out. It all depends whether you'd like the full set of tulip bead and book. Shipping of the bead costs about € 2,- to the USA whereas shipping of the bead and book starts at approx. € 10,- as the book is rather heavy.
Re: About tulips....
I agree, but if you do that, and the parcel goes missing? My Secret valentine present has still not arrived in the USA! I double checked my figures if you use insured and recorded post, after all I personally would hate to lose a parcel or something so treasured as a long wished bead. I'm being practical, accepting money on paypal, which charges us for receiving money etc..
Perhaps I've been in business too long.. Too practical?
Yes the book weighs a lot but if you split it, in time.. that book is just as valuable but that's only my opinion. Holland is a small country so to have had something special like the tulip was great, how many collectors in 10 years? After all it has been TB since 1976. All jewelry is a fashion, that means our great grandchildren will use them at one time or another.. fashion is a cycle.. our beads will keep value..
With the united europe attitude, how long will Holland feel and be Holland? Look at the political changes I think to treasure something like the tulip from TB I honestly think its a hot hot item..;-) this opens up to a whole new discussion... but we have had country beads Italy, Germany, Holland... all countries in the EU...
Future? China, Europe, USA etc etc catch my drift?
Just playing it safe, if I could hand a tulip in someones hands.. and just am the courier I wouldnot mind but reality is we use the postoffice or something similar.

Re: About tulips....
It would indeed be a very sad thing if a parcel goes missing.
But of the nearly 60 tulips I shipped world wide none ever got lost in the mail. Nor did it happen for the 12 Dutch World Tour Bead sets. Shipped unregistered or registered (if wanted), with or without the book. I'd say no worries there..
Re: About tulips....
That's really encouraging smaug,
My business partner said to me
"You always look at the pessimistic side, before committing us.
Thank God!"
Just as well I did, as the company carried on trading for many more years. :-)

Re: About tulips....
The place I checked was at the link in the post from BeadThrilled. Shipping was 25 euros (book plus bead). This struck me as a lot especially since I am not sure that I really want the book. Then I might get hit on this end with customs fees, duty plus taxes--never know until it arrives if they let it through or charge. So could be at about $110. My beads are something that I buy for my own enjoyment. I don't consider it an investment. That is more than I want to pay to be able to have a tulip bead.
I might think about going the trollfairy route. But it will come down to a decision of the tulip or something else. Decisions. Decisions. In the meantime I will enjoy my Sunflower bead.
I don't worry too much about shipping with the post office. Yes once in awhile things do go missing, but with countries considered reliable the vast majority of stuff gets there. I now do what I consider self insurance on most of the things I do for myself and within my family. I have an amount that I have decided that I can risk having go missing. Less than that I don't insure, more than that I do.

Re: About tulips....
Sakyubc, you have the right attitude, I'm the same for myself personally if I am prepared to take the gamble with my OWN money than that's fair enough, but if you are a trollfairy and you want to do it as low as possible, than you need the assurance of the other person to say... yeh lets gamble and keep our fingers crossed. Right now there are loads of good dutch troll fairies.. I'm very happy about that!
I have also asked for insured shipping at times and was happy to pay the extra.. so it goes both ways. I just wanted to point out the ups n downs of sending items abroad etc.. to be honest so each person can make their own choice.
Its what we do in business, I show you the pessimistic outlook and you all decide..;-) Meantime, I carry on appreciating my tulips and am happy I took the plunge buying them.

Re: About tulips....
quick question IS THE DUTCH TULIP ACTUALLY RETIRED?
this is what I got back from an ebayer because they stated it is retired.
Dear *******,
the btulip came out in 2009 ,they were limited made and only for the dutch ,so when the books were sold out it was retired in 2010,

Re: About tulips....
I think it would be more correct to call it a Limited Edition rather than Retired?
But it's a lovely bead and I'm very happy with mine and grateful to the trollfairy who helped me out

Re: About tulips....
On the Trollbeads Universe site it is in their Museum, which in my mind means retired in the sense no longer made. They do picture both limited beads as well as regular production beads. Says it was released in 2007, same year for entry into the museum and states: This bead was released exclusively in The Netherlands as a special gift when customers purchased with the book 'I love Trollbeads'.
