Re: In Memory of Bert the Spider
I nearly went down. I dropped my iPad, still working though. I can't help it, it kind of hurts me/stings seeing something like that unannounced.
Something from my childhood and my brother (the one who did it) still teases me about it.
Indeed, no Faerybeads spider, not a realistic one. I managed to wear the silver TB one (trying to overcome my phobia) though.

Re: In Memory of Bert the Spider
I'm like that with having my face covered after my brother and sister trapped me in my sleeping bag when I was little. It made me claustrophobic for life but they still think it was funny holding the top so I couldn't get out siblings eh! (I still tease them about lots of things but I don't think I gave them a phobia!)Smaug wrote:

Yeah, that's what gets me too, I think my CSection set me off.

These ones are 4mm long, are brightly coloured and do a little dance. I can't watch them without smiling.

Interesting, that's when I knew how bad mine was, I once jumped off the table during conscious surgery when they threw the sheet over my head! I totally lost itPandabee(uk) wrote:Yeah, that's what gets me too, I think my CSection set me off.splinty wrote:I'm like that with having my face covered after my brother and sister trapped me in my sleeping bag when I was little. I tried, they are cute but I couldn't watch the dance for long, I seem to have gone all jumpy, I'll try again tomorrowPandabee(uk) wrote:These ones are 4mm long, are brightly coloured and do a little dance. Re: In Memory of Bert the Spider
Yeah, it weird. I remember realising I had a problem when I went on a gold mine tour in South Africa. I was having to work really hard not to panic and freak out. But the sheet they put next to your head whilst having a CSection really sent me over the edge. I would have quite happily watched them getting DD out, but I was too tired to cope with a stupid sheet over my head.

Yes you can only deal with it when you're with it enough to talk yourself down, labour's not one of those times! Â I still find it totally irrational, especially as I know what caused it; I even have to tell myself to breathe driving through road tunnels. But it's one of those things you can't help!

That was wonderful, Pandabee, thanks.
Now to a different sort of spider: Â animated!
In 1992 when we were living in Bristol, I occasionally caught a spider cartoon on the telly. I loved that cartoon. I didn't have any way to save it, since the British tv videos weren't compatible with American tv.
Do any of you UK folks remember that cartoon? Can you find me a youtube clip or two?

yes, that's him! Now to find the particular episode I liked. I can't remember anything about it, but I'll know it when I see it.

My DD was born via Csection too, but they didn't put a sheet over my head. I would have gone insane. LOL, I shut my eyes for the first part, but looked in the mirror image of the surgical lights to see her coming out. A sheet like that, I would feel that they were trying to kill me!

Re: In Memory of Bert the Spider
Well I think it was supposed to go straight up and down, but it was an emergency and was put up so fast it ended up sitting at a 45 degree angle over my head. Not fun. Shudder. But hey, we're both still here.

Re: In Memory of Bert the Spider
OMG Splinty, your spider infestation would have me running for my life and never returning to my house. I read an article the other day about the giant house spider epidemic in the UK this year (maybe one of you posted it?).
I can handle the little ones, don't even really mind if they would crawl on me, but the big ones...NO FREAKIN' WAY!! Makes me shudder just thinking about it....brrrrr!!
You girls had me laughing with your Csection stories...I'm sure not funny at the time, but it brought back memories...my Csection experience was that I was SO COLD, I could NOT stop shivering and I was shivering so violently that the Anesthesiologist was sitting at my head practically hugging me to keep me from moving so much. (My husband was worthless...just cowering behind the divider sheet so he didn't have to see any blood. LOL!!)

I did that too! I was told that the baby's liver acts as a hot water bottle, that coupled with the shock of getting them out makes you shake. The more you try to stop it, the worse it gets.

Re: In Memory of Bert the Spider
depends on what kind of anaesthetic is used too...
many patients (no cs) shiver after operations which is very uncomfortable for them and not necessary, we give them immediately a shot of Pethidine.

Re: In Memory of Bert the Spider
Yeah, I just had a little read up on the subject.
It's more lightly to be the hard core drugs, i.e. epidural/morphine, but the good old NHS just let me ride it out, it only took 3 hours to finally give over, so I could hold DD. They even found the epidural catheter still in my back 2 days later, when I tried to move myself up the bed and dragged it...such joy.
However, Nothing ever goes perfectly and we are both still here.
