OOAKS - what I've heard Empty OOAKS - what I've heard

Post by rainyday Wed Jan 12, 2011 8:15 pm

So I have heard from a pretty reliable source that Trollbeads Denmark is changing their marketing strategy for OOAK beads. In the future they will be concentrating on producing more sets of Ltd OOAK bead kits for regular release (like the Spring Flowers kits and the Christmas in Hawaii & Australia kits). This means that in future the random OOAK kits will be limited in number & harder for dealers & distributors to obtain. How hard exactly I don't know.

Now I don't know exactly what the repercussions will be, but that is partially why the UK sites are having troubles obtaining OOAKs and I've heard it will be harder in future. I'm hoping this doesn't mean TBs will be stopping OOAK production entirely. That would be boring, boring, boring.

But everyone keep your ears & eyes open. Maybe some of the LDs will start to have more info on this (UK, Germany, NL, Denmark...) if we keep asking. I'm thinking of contacting TB.com in an email to see if they will say anything on this topic. But first anyone else heard anything???

Interesting...I hope they don't stop production of OOAKs because I agree that would be boring, boring, boring...I love my OOAKs and lots of times purchase my production glass beads to go along with the OOAKs I've bought...I do hope you email Trollbeads and I will be patiently awaiting their response. Heard nothing on this - my LD is not a massive buyer of OOAKs, although they have maybe 60 of them, they don't move quickly.

Oh no, I have as many OOAK glass as production glass and I wouldn't want to be restricted to just production and limited edition. How sad that this may be the case, I hope doesn't impact us too much. Thank you rainyday for the info!

I agree Troll Boi - I do the same; find production beads to go with my OOAKs. A majority of my collection is OOAKs, so if the production/sales of these types of beads becomes more limited, hopefully that will mean that the value of our collections will increase! ...trying to think positive here...

I would really miss the ooak beads if they stop making them. They are what really got me started! My first Trollbead was a OOAK! I think I like the hunt though it can be frustrating at times. I don't mind the limited release beads, but do both please! And please make Lund distribute the special beads to all the stores!

I like the ooaks just for the pure nature of them even if production ones do vary a little from each other.
I heard that the ooaks that we know now were going to change price bracket to glass 2 prices.

That is pretty much the rumour that I have been hearing as well ... I have been reading suttle warnings that all our old ugly ooaks will be valuable again shortly! Crying or Very sad All I can say ... if they are releasing ooak kits I hope they will be distributed worldwide and I hope they will be spectacular! Personally I am not to worried ... I think there will be lots of Artisans on the horizon Very Happy

If it does come about, I'm really going to treasure the OOAKs I do have even more. I can't imagine paying Glass 2 for an OOAK bead. Waaaa!

I already pay Glass 2 for most my OOAKs. So, this is not weird to me. There are some places and charge Glass 2 for regular OOAKs and $5 more for nicer ones. It is not unusual to pay $45 USDfor a decent OOAK. No

But Glass 2 in UK pricing is horrible! Might not be so bad in the US as like you say they already sell OOAKs at Glass 2 in most places. But our poor overseas friends!!!!

I don't get it. The Uglies don't sell at glass 1 price, so how would marking them at glass2 price help? scratch

The stock value of some dealer will increase then from one day to the other.
Maybe they will try to sell all ooak for glass 2 price (whatever that may be after another price increase), even the older ones?

Just can tell, what happend since the last price increase in August:
I haven't bought any production glass for me and only a very few ooak.
Can't see changing that, if the prices will go up, no matter how much.
It is only glass and there a some great artist beads out there....

On the plus side. If Steffans stop getting all their fabby ooaks, at least I'll be able to build upon my production bead collection - my head just gets turned by that ooak display everytime, even when I go in with "goal beads" in mind.

It will take me a long time to make a bracelet if ooaks will be more expensive. I use ooaks more than production there is more choice.

If ooakglass beads go to pricegroup 2, where is the current pricegroup 2 glass going? To a group 3? Or? pale
I am confuged confused
Well I will know on the 31/1

I think you soon will find my bracelets boring (no new glass Laughing ), but I will search for some artists - maby at itzy (or what was the name?)
I saw one there the other day - so fantastic that I just have to convence myselv to try and buy from that site.

I've bought some beautiful beads on Etsy. There are a couple of artisan beadmakers who do fabulous work. I like the personal connection with them too, you can request a custom listing for a bead you want.

If there are fewer OOAKs, I will spend a lot less money Very Happy I can't resist a beautiful OOAK. Most of my favorite combos are all OOAKs with one or two production glass.

Most of my bead budget last year went to ooaks. So, if there are fewer ooaks, I will try to concentrate on the silver beads on my list, and maybe some more azure bubbles or deserts.

I haven't heard of a shortage of ooaks and in fact they are coming out with the universal core ooaks. Not sure I will like them.

What is a "universal core" ooak?
