Thoughts are Free

With respect to Hans Litten for his courage, his strength and his morals...and here's to freedom of thought sustaining us all!  






Thoughts are free, who can guess them?
They fly by like nocturnal shadows.
No man can know them, no hunter can shoot them
with powder and lead: Thoughts are free!

I think what I want, and what delights me,
still always reticent, and as it is suitable.
My wish and desire, no one can deny me
and so it will always be: Thoughts are free!
 
And if I am thrown into the darkest dungeon,
all these are futile works,
because my thoughts tear all gates
and walls apart: Thoughts are free!

So I will renounce my sorrows forever,
and never again will torture myself with whimsies.
In one's heart, one can always laugh and joke
and think at the same time: Thoughts are free!

I love wine, and my girl even more,
Only her I like best of all.
I'm not alone with my glass of wine,
my girl is with me: Thoughts are free!

This is so intriguing, and very stunning. all those mysterious faces. I love the Egyptian faces and I've got thoughts on the way to me.

I regret to say I didn't know who Hans Litten was, so looked him up on wiki. He sounds brilliant, such a courageous chap. Love your tribute to him.

yes what a man! It was nice of you to look him up  This poem has always reminded me of him, I can't imagine the courage it must have taken to recite it in those circumstances, so my Thoughts bracelet had to be a tribute to him

A great big Thank You     Splinty, for educating us in your peaceful passive and artistic way. I too did not know who Hans Litten was and thanks to you I now do. A brave and noble soul. Your bracelet is a beautiful and worthy tribute. And the poem, simple and brilliant

I didn't know who Hans Litten was either and looked him up on Wikipedia. What an amazing person. Thank you for this post. Oh - and I love your combo too
