Baltic Sea

The sea is stormy on this day, white horses are crowning high waves in the Baltic Sea. A cold wind is breezing over the beach, cold sea foam thick as a fine and steady rain is swirling through the air, but the amber gatherers are out, still. They lit a fire under a ledge in the cliffs and are taking turns warming up and hunting the beach for the gold of the sea. It is dark, still, the light of their flashlights dances on the surface of the surf like a group of hobgoblins feasting away the night. Ever so slowly a mighty many-armed creature is crawling nearer and nearer through the roaring surf, watching, waiting... The gatherers know of this danger. And still they carry on. For only after a storm like this their search will be rewarded with the most precious of ambers. Science has it that the waters of the Baltic Sea are not containing enough salt to make a habitat for his kind. But he does not care for science, nor does he care for the gatherers this night. For it is the mating season and thus it is not food that he has on his mind.
