Odin from Lejre - Runes and Mead
Thank you so much, Anita, for introducing me to Odin from Lejre. And thank you, Splinty, for the Aurifex contact information!
Last Thursday (it was an epic mail day ) Odin arrived in Skopje. Immediately the Wolf and the Raven flocked to his throne, Odin collected his Runes and called for Met - and the feast began! The Midgard Serpent may already be lurking at the edge of the world foretelling a future of drastic change. But for now Odin´s rule is strong and his hall is full of merriment and festivities.
While I love the idea that the figure actually portrays Freya, at the moment I would agree that indeed it is Odin with his two ravens and his wolves. I browsed the net and found this picture of another male figurine wearing a similar dress: http://natmus.dk/en/historisk-viden/danmark/oldtid-indtil-aar-1050/yngre-jernalder-400-800/guder-i-jernalderen/traemanden-fra-rude-eskildstrup/
On the other hand I just noticed that there seems to be something on the right side of the throne in the front that might either be a staff but for me looks smore like a snake and that could hint at a Goddess instead of a God. Hel comes to mind as does Hyndla (a Giantess), both associated with snakes in Germanic mythologie.
We might never know and maybe he/she will reveal his/herself more in the time to come.
Archaeology is anything but a surefire science. And I remember a film on TV about a find in a cave where footprints from thousands of years ago had been preserved. It was thought that these showed a ritual dance of a man and a woman, if I remember correctly. But then the scientists flew in trackers from Africa and they found out that the tracks were those of a man and a boy going back and forth while collecting something from the cave´s wall. Unfortunately, I forgot if it was clay or flint (like for arrowheads). This shows that archaeological speculation can get a bit far-fetched
In the end much is in the eye of the beholder - and my eyes sparkle when I see this absolutely beautiful bead

Wow this is amazing!!
Am I glad that I learned about Odin through my daughter who had it in school - it is so much nicer to look at your beautiful combo with the knowledge of the legend behind.
Your bracelet has so much mystery and strength to it - love it!

Thank you so much, dear Mabel It is so cool that your daughter learned about Odin in school! I would have loved to learn about Odin in school, too, but our focus was mostly on history from the 1800s onwards and very little on the Middle Ages, but I do not remember anything about the Early Middle Ages or before (apart from the texts in my Latin classes, but those focused on the Roman Empire not the „Barbarians“ ).

Stunning as usual
Anyone else been watching 'the almighty Johnsons' hardly educational but an amusing modern day take on our favourite Norse gods.
