no - half of the needle seems to be fallen out of the bead - the bead itself is not broken ...

Re: my tourmaline is broken
I mean - of course the bead is broken - there is a whole in its surface where the needle was... but there is no damage except the missing needle...

Re: my tourmaline is broken
I took close-up pictures of my tourmalinated quartz one day and I thought to see a line in my bead which could easely break... so I asked my jeweller about it and he checked it for me... my bead has liquid inside that seems like a line... amethist has it often too... I asked him if the bead can break, but he told me it wil happen in a few weeks or never... Since the release it is still without trouble on my bracelet. I'll cross my fingers for you that Trollbeads will give you an other one... but the beauty you had... I don't know if you find it back !!! Wish you luck and I'll

Unicorn, I'm so sorry you're upset but if it makes you feel any better I think your quartz is beautiful with the break!

Re: my tourmaline is broken
My LD always replaces beads, locks and even bracelets if they get broken. I've already had a new lace lock (which got broken at its small end), a new bracelet, whose end had become too tiny (silver is easily consumed by the friction of the clasp, did you know? So check your blets rings to be sure they don't open), and a purple flower glass.
I'm sure they'll replace your tourmaline quartz soon!

Agatha, that is a brilliant description of what has happened here
The main body of the bead is quartz; a crystalline form of silicon dioxide. The rutile inclusions are sepearate crystals of titanium dioxide growing within the quartz. I don't think the two crystals actually bond to each other, but are usually so tightly packed together that they don't slide apart. Sadly, in this case, part of one of the rutile crystals has broken and hadn't grown so close to the quartz.
@ Unicorn 1976: I do think it is still a lovely bead and you could treasure it for it's natural quirks
