First lock failure

Last night I had my first failure. A Frieja Knot just gave way while I was cooking. Didn't catch on anything and wasn't subjected to any stress I could feel. I was just chopping some veggies at the sink and everything went clattering in different directions.

I guess I was lucky that it happened in my own kitchen. I was able to get down on the floor with a flashlight and hunt down all but one glass bead (one of the Christmas in Hawaii beads). It must be under a major appliance at this point because I've checked everywhere else. At least that's what I hope happened as, if my 1yo grandson for whom I do daycare finds it before I do, it could be a choking hazard.

It could have been worse. It could have been a busy public place where I couldn't spend 15 minutes on my belly locating all the parts.

But aren't these things intended to be worn? I seem to have so much more collateral damage than most here do. I was able to gently bend the hook back into contact with the latching arm by myself so it's already dealt. No trying to figure out which LD I bought it from and trotting off for a repair and a wait. OTOH, I have no need of jewelry that I can't wear and enjoy.

I guess I'll have to buy a safety chain.

You have weakened the silver. It needs to be replaced. Shouldn't be a problem with were you bought it. If it is you can send it to me and I will replace it. You might need a longer bracelet as flexing your wrist on one that is too tight could cause this to happen, because something has to give.

You can send it back to Trollbeads Denmark. I'm positive it will get replaced by a better one!

It didn't feel tight to me but I will attend to the fact that I'vev weakened the silver.

Oops! Shame on me! I almost forgot to thank you, Babsbeads, for the kind offer of help. I assume I can work it out with my LD. Better I try to remember which one it was but they both keep records so they'll know who's best to take care of my prob.

How scary. Glad you located most of your beads. I have read that this particular lock has had some problems. So far no problems with mine but it makes me want to go out and buy some stoppers.

The Freya Lock is quite notorious. I wish I hadn't bought mine and only use it with amber and a few small silvers.

People say that the earlier ones were stronger. How long have you had this one?

So sorry that happened...All these stories are making me want to get rid of mine...that said mine seems perfectly strong but where is the weak point?

Just a few months. I've only been collecting TB stuff for 6 months.

Thank goodness the dealers are stand up about replacing things and getting repairs. I went to the LD I got it from and it's already replaced. Got a safety chain for my favorite bracelet and a couple stoppers for the one that I change around all the time.

My one and only lock failure was with the same lock, as BB says it has a bit of a reputation

Safety chain AND stoppers. You NEED both. I also usually leave one bead length free on the chain to allow for flexion.

Glad you got most of your beads back, hope you find the missing one soon.

Sorry to hear about your Lock failure but glad to hear that you managed to find just about all your beads. I'm sure that the last one will turn up as well...

Agree with mola, a stopper is a MUST and preferable a safety chain as well. We all invest so much money into our bracelets, the cost of a stopper and safety chain is a cheap insurance!

Oh no, another failure of the Freya lock

I have two Freya locks, one of them I have worn for almost two years now without any problems, I´ve checked it to see any difference with my other locks but to me all the small loops look similar.

Stoppers are a must on every bracelet !

I've had one Freya replaced. Keeping my second just for my necklace. Such a beautiful lock, so sad it's so weak

TaDa! Freya again!!! I love mine but it failed too and I got it exchanged. But even the new one I use very rarely, though I like the look so much, it seems very frail! I'm a bit adventurous sometimes because I don't like the feeling of a safety chain, but always wear one with my more precious bracelets and always ALWAYS a stopper.
At least that prevents your beads rolling all over the place!

Is this failure a design problem or just quality control because today at my LD I was looking at some of the fall release beads and 1 had obvious chips around the core this and all the loose cores lately make me question TBs quality control.

I've had two Freya locks that have failed. Personally I think it is a weaker lock, all of my other locks have been fine over the past 4 years.

Personally, I watch my bracelets all the time when I have them on. Due to the fact that I own 9 silver bracelets, 9 safety chains would cost me a small fortune. I use stoppers on all of my bracelets and keep an eye on the lock.

Is this the knot lock 10106 or a different one? It isn't described as a Freya lock any more - is that an older name?

I had read about the weakness of that lock, but it was on my list. Looked carefully at them when I went to buy and they all looked weak to me. Haven't got it.
Last week I looked at the elephant lock for my safari bracelet and the one at the dealer's looked very frail to me. Didn't buy it.
I'm using my stoppers and chains now and waiting for the DRAGON.

The trunk on my Elephant has been known to bend a bit under a heavy load and has been re-curled mildly but I don't think it is nearly as suspect as my Freya Knot which feels flimsy.
