Prisms prone to loose cores? Empty Prisms prone to loose cores?

Post by LindaJo Wed Jul 20, 2011 5:16 pm

I've run across an LD getting out of TB. Not much left, nothing rare anyway.
Several prisms, but every one of them has a loose core. You can hold the core between two fingers and rotate the prism around it.
Is that common for prisms? Does a loose core eventually cause problems?

I have a couple of glass beads that have loose cores - I am not thrilled with them, but haven't had any problems with them. I try not to purchase beads with loose cores, but every once in a while you don't have a choice, if it is an OOAK that you love!

My prisms are some of the only ones that I have that have stable cores. My opther beads have slightly loose cores (in that I can turn them but they don't pop in and out of the bead). It hasn't caused any problems thus far.

I love my prisms and luckily none of them have loose cores as that would be a bit of a worry. It's also a bit of a worry so many dealers deciding to get out of trollbeads

On this side of the pond, I think a lot of the lost dealers were ones who'd been treated badly by Lund and took the opportunity to jump ship this spring when Lund was pushed out. Just my impression.

I'm undecided whether to get these loose-core prisms, tho it's a heck of a deal. I don't see any danger of the cores coming out, just that the beads rotate on them a bit.

THe mai thing with the core is to protect the bracelet from the glas so as long as you canĀ“t popp them out of the glas I say go for it!

I have loads of glass beads like that they are all absolutely fine. the oldest I have like that (oldest to me) are my Trollstones which I have had for three years and wore and wore and they are still fantastic.

A loose core is a lot less likely to cause problems than a core that is too tight. It's a delicate procedure to get the core so that it will not turn but isn't so tight that it might cause the bead to break later on.

I have a serious pet hate for loose cores, in fact I bought a couple of yellow jades from swag at half price that I plan to return tomo...I have found though that sometimes if a bead has a loose core, it I give it a slight turn it solves the problem...I wonder why that is?

Thanks for the technical view, Mandy! Makes sense.

Ok, y'all are great enablers, I went back and got some of the prisms. I won't likely get another chance to go to that shop for several weeks so I had to grab the opportunity. Financial rationalisation 101. Wink
