I remember seeing these arts and crafts bracelet years ago - I remember snork had one - did she start the whole concept?
Anyway, I have never been sure how to go about making one, what is the theme or theory behind it? Where do I begin?!!
I believe I did - wayyyy back on TBS.
Basically, Arts and Crafts is the British version of Jugendstil (Germany), Art Nouveau (France), Modernisme (Spain), Wiener Secession (Austria) and many comprehensive similar lifestyle trends from the end of the 19th century.
As for inspiration, just look at the beautiful tapestries and fabrics made by William Morris and other artists from Arts & Crafts movement - colours, shapes and textures.
Another good source is the work of Alfons Maria Mucha, who designed incredibly beautiful posters.
You will want lots of flowers and leaves, dusky colours both in soft and in bold combinations, and many rounded and swirly shapes. Avoid symmetry and angles. I find teal and mossy greens, brassy and golden browns, pearly roses and purples, and maybe coppery and pink reds are typical for the colour scheme. So Lake eye and Russian amber should be shouting at you from the basement of your bead villa to get them out to play!
Here is another one I made earlier, more playful and on a more cheerful colour scheme, to evoke Antoni Gaudi and the architecture of Barcelona:
Thanks for the reminder, Sil! I need to re-make one of these combos and wear them again, so versatile.

And, just for good measure, two more jugendstil inspired combos, to highlight the versatility of the design approach:

I really loved the whole concept Snorkmaiden, it just worked for me in having many colours and shapes that I particularly like and yet also offering versatility. This is an approach I have returned to at least half a dozen times in the months since Snorkmaiden suggested the theme back in the old "clubhouse". Several people responded with their own versions at the time, it was, and is, such an inspiring theme.

Ahhhh, thank you, Snork. I tried to read a lot of the old threads on TBS, but most the pictures were gone.

Pandabee, your signature is particularly appropriate for this thread:
