Bead Pile Up Empty Bead Pile Up

Post by Carla Sun Jun 12, 2011 2:07 pm

Here are the thirteen bracelets that I will be trying to get past customs on the 22nd.. I have hooked the together and I might wear them as a necklace. I have to tie the loose beads on shoelaces, no knitting needs allowed, Smile plus some necklaces.

Any suggestions welcome.

Pray......? That's all I can think of Carla. That's a dang lot of beads to wear. I hope they stay together and you have no custom's problems.

I would try to avoid using the word jewelry, that makes customs agents think diamonds, gold and platinum, and their cash register eyes start rolling!
Call 'em beads or fashion accessories. But I think you have some gold beads in there, so they may insist on calling it jewelry.

I assume you're taking these with you on the plane. Will this be your official date for entering the US to live? You might need to declare your beads as being included in your household shipment, part of one lump sum declaration.

Tell me again - why should it be a problem to get your own beads through customs when wearing them??

Can you give me a link to customs rules?

Clearly there is something I do not know!! Shocked

I don't have a link to customs and I don't plan to declare them Laughing I just need to make sure the loose beads don't scatter everywhere when my bags are searched. You can't bring large size plastic bags in your hold baggage so I am looking for a cloth zip up bag. I will keep you posted.

I always have stuff in plastic bags in my carryon luggage. I thought it was preferred so customs can easily see what is inside.

Could DH wear some beads to in order to lesson your load Laughing?

I would consider a piece of leather cording or a leather shoelace for the loose beads - I would trust the strength of leather over a regular shoelace! I have to wonder if the metal in the pipecleaners might not trigger something in the metal detectors and be considered one of those "prohibited" items.

You just better pray that the security that checks you isn't a trollbead collector, you may be late for you flight Laughing Could you try one of those laundry bags for delicates ... they make all sizes and some are quite small, that might work for you. Let us know what you decide on Very Happy

Carla I am unable to see your Pile hehe, for some reason they are not
showing up. I know that you are coming to live in the US, but forgive me
I don't know weather you were born in the US or England.
I can say that when I have traveled to Europe, I have never had problems
with anything that was my personal property. They usually are looking for
gifts and things that people are bringing in to sell.
Wasn't there one of the members of the forum who lived over seas?
Perhaps you can ask?

OK Carla, I apologize for suggesting to give you indigestion. (remember I said I couldn't advise it?)

But how about wearing them as a belt? 13 bracelets x what size wrist are you, 20cm? That would be 2.6 metres, go as a hippie, wear something colourful, loose and frilly, and tie them three times around your waist.

Good point (sigh!), also I remembered that such a heavy belt could be used as a weapon (bola style), so probably actually it's Carla's best bet to hope for a TB loving security person - the loss of one bracelet is probably easier to cope with than the loss of them all...

The ide of sewing the beads on clothing is not bad....if you did it to the back part of a coat it could work like a circulation boaster for the long flight and all that sitting down. Here many Taxi drivers have seat covers made out of wooden beads woven together
