It finally happened
My first lock failure
After hearing many other members' stories and counting my lucky stars, my lovely greys bracelet fell to the floor! Luckily it was after a day of work, after stopping in several different stores and trying on garments (that may have helped it weaken), so it could have fallen off in many other places where I might not have noticed. But I was in the kitchen, showing DD a few shirts that I had gotten her, and it fell to the floor. I am still so lucky, and thank goodness for the stopper! (No, no safety chain )Anyone want to wager a bet on which lock?

Was it the Freya lock?

BINGO! We have a winner!!
I am amazing at how much the small end bent; after 3 years of wearing these things, this is the first time it has happened, so I am more shocked than I probably should be. But I do wonder if the Freya has the highest rate of failure, for whatever reason, if anyone is keeping track. We should do a poll! And send it to TB Headquarters!!

Actually you were right first! I read "knot" and didn't process it as Freya until I read it again....

Oh dear so I am right to worry about my Freya Knot lock. I really do think it is flimsy and only use it with ambers and 4 small silvers.

I've had weak ones myself... it's scary how flimsy that lock can be.. and it's my favorite design.

Me too (my favorite design)! I don't know whether to replace it with another Freya or something sturdier.neonfiller wrote:I've had weak ones myself... it's scary how flimsy that lock can be.. and it's my favorite design.
@BB I wouldn't worry with not a full bracelet; mine was full, I was wearing a sweater and shirt where the sleeves were tight around the wrist, and pulling them on and off. In another words, lock abuse! It is probably okay if you don't stress it out, just breaks under intense stress (like me )

Re: It finally happened
I had my first ever 'saved by the safety chain' experience last week. My lovely kimonos plus 5 jewels and pearls, silvers, lock stopper and chain. Yes, it was the small end of my Freya's Knot Lock that went. Safety chain just paid for itself 25 times over.

Not you too! Looks like you do the safety chain and I do thestopper; both seemed to have done their job.

Glad to hear that no beads were harmed !
I just don´t understand why it´s always the Frey lock
For me the small end of that lock doesn´t look any different to the others.

I like my Freya lock, it's a lovely simple design but I'm nervous now of it coming undone ... I think investing in a safety chain might be a sensible move

I love the Freya locks and have never had a problem with them so far. I guess time will tell. I always have a stopper and safety chain on my bracelets.

Went to my dealer and replaced the damaged Freya - with another Freya am I a glutton for punishment?

I have had 2 Freya's fail!!! So I gave up and rebent it back together - just use it on my leather necklace now occassionally.

Re: It finally happened
Safety chains are so important - such cheap insurance. ( I used to give the same line on TBS.) I couldn't stand the stress of wearing a bracelet with my precious beads without one.
TC - I'm glad your lock failed safely at home. Please take the lesson to heart and get a chain. You have too many lovely beads to risk even 1 of them.

I don't have a Freya lock, but I love the style and was thinking about one, sorry to hear about all the failures! Glad that yours was safe at home and no beads lost. I wear a safety chain, they seem sort of expensive, but for the price of a bead that is a whole lot of insurance.

Re: It finally happened
My Freya is the only one that has failed on me. Luckily I had on the safety chain. It's sad because it is my favorite lock... behind the Anniversary Troll. I wonder what they did differently on that small end to make it so much weaker.
