About Tasmanian Devils
Anaspides photography Iain D Williams
Keeping the Tasmanian Devil alive in the wild
The Tasmanian devil is the world's largest surviving marsupial carnivore and is only found in the wild in Australia's island State of Tasmania.
The species has suffered a major population decline and is now listed as Endangered.
This decline is due to an infectious cancer known as Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD).
The latest figures show that 80% of Tasmanian devils have been lost from the wild. Listed as an Endangered Species, the Tasmanian devil faces a bleak future unless we can act now to assure the species in the wild.
The Save the Tasmanian Devil Program was established in 2003 as the official, national response to the threat posed by DFTD. The Australian and Tasmanian Governments and the University of Tasmania have established this partnership to protect this keystone species.
Funds are vital to support the immediate research and management activities of the Save the Tasmanian Devil Program.
Bower Beads Tasmanian Devil Babies
"Temporarily forgetting all their worries these charming baby Devils are playing a game of tumble.
Head over heel, over and over they go, seemingly not a care in the world.
However, a terrible disease that causes facial cancers is ravaging the population of these unique carnivores that are found only on the island of Tasmania.
Scientists around the world are working to save the species from extinction.
$5 from the price of every silver Devil bead and $10 from every gold bead purchased from Ruth Waterhouse will be donated to help vital research and to find a cure for the disease."

By far my favorite wildlife beads and also supporting a good cause.
The unrivaled design and quality of these beads really justifies their higher price, imo.

They are so cute! What a shame they are struggling to survive. The beads are wonderful.

Re: About Tasmanian Devils
This (the single Tasmanian devil) was my first Bower bead and I love it---he is one of my favourite beads. I am currently awaiting pebble mouse and clownfish on anemone (single) and also have lucky rabbits and kookaburra.
At present they are working on breeding captive populations of devils free of the cancer strain and hoping to reintroduce them on a remote/inaccessible island previously cleared of all devils (by trapping I believe) and then monitoring their progress. They seem to be breeding successfully in captivity so far. Let's hope that their efforts are successful.
Actually--I noticed the Bower beads symbol somewhere else on this forum but when I tried to access was told I needed special access privileges (or something). Does anyone know how I can get access as I love these beads and would love to see more on peoples' bracelets?

That section is open to 'new members' (1+ post) Which reminds me (again) I need to summarize access levels... Enjoy!

Hi LindaJo,
Maelstrom is part of the pedigree name of one of my show cats---she is a black smoke Egyptian Mau and was the first ever GCCF-Titled black smoke mau in the UK. I chose the name for her when I saw her first kitten pictures when she was 2 weeks old as she has black fur with darker black tabby markings on a silver undercoat. Her Prefix or cattery name is MESKHENET which is the name of the Egyptian Vulture goddess and Maelstrom is the name for a very powerful storm.
The GCCF is the main showing organisation for cats here in the UK. Her pet name is Sprite (or MINX, or LITTLE DEVIL or POPPET depending upon her mood!)

Re: About Tasmanian Devils
The bower beads are beautiful and the devils sure need our help. It's great that people around the world are becoming aware of their situation. Has everyone heard how they sound? Try YouTube. Tassie will always have a connection to Denmark of course through

Re: About Tasmanian Devils
I'm so grateful to this forum for turning me on to these and other brand beads, as well as expanding my horizons to the wonderful world of Trollbeads.
The Tasmanian Devil babies were the first ones that caught my eye as well, because I've always thought they were cute IRL, always been a fan of Warner Bros. "Taz" and my kitty cat is also named "Taz" after the character. Let's just say he was a rambuctious kitten :-)
Thanks to everyone! I'm so impressed with this forum.

Fantastic idea, soxfan! I also have a plan to do a furry animals themed bracelet, including the fur/animal type glass beads like Grey Wolf, Wildcat, Animal Fur, Black Squirrel, etc, as well as some cute and cuddly silver animals. I only have to be a little more patient with collecting...it's SOOOO HARD to resist buying everything I've got my heart set on at once and prioritize my purchases

Hahaha, romayne, I know how you feel...but just to be clear, the Tasmanian Devil babies beads are from Bower, but I think they will go GREAT with some of the TBs :-) and can't wait to combine them.
