New Storage
Loving my new storage because I like my beads on rods. The layers stack and the top layer has a lid....you can always add more layers.
I bought it on eBay but it was delivered to a forum friend in the States because there's no option for UK delivery. Delivery cost would also be prohibitive because of the weight. I brought it home with me as hand luggage when I recently had a holiday in America. Next visit I may be tempted to add a layer or two!

I am finally outgrowing my current bead box. I need to upgrade...but to what. I like the idea of the rod. I just don't know!

Re: New Storage
Do the layers attach at all? I currently have a cigar box and am out of room, but I like to grab it and take it with me when traveling or shopping for beads . . . so need something that the lid has a latch and the layers would need to hook together. I LOVE yours, great storage, lots of rods in one box . . but wondering if it has the features I need. Thanks!!!

Re: New Storage
I don't believe the layers hook together - they just stack one on top of the other. You might look into Harbor Freight and their Windsor wooden 8 drawer tool box. I have one and it is really perfect for bead storage. There are 6 smaller drawers that I put beads on rods (currently double pointed knitting needles but to be replaced with brass rods when my DH cuts them down to size), two larger drawers that I put compartmented storage units in for bracelets and necklaces and the top lifts to a largers storage level that I also use compartmented storage units in and keep my loop turners in.

If you would like more pictures, let me know!! I plan on showing DH Angeltroll's pictures so he can make the little wooden pieces with notches for my new rods - when he finishes them! I love Angeltroll's box and would have purchased one if I didn't already have this one!! I was lucky enough to see her collection in person when she visited the States and pictures do not do it justice. She has incredible beads!!!

Re: New Storage
Thank you Alicia ~ your storage is definitely more suitable for the larger collection. (My DH would have had a fit if you had brought this chest with you when we were TB shopping in Concord!! It's "serious" storage). I only intend using my storage at home, so Janet ...you'd be better following Alicia's advice.

Speaking of hand luggage, I had my cigar box in my bag when going thru security one time and was asked if I had an abacus in my bag!!! I got a good laugh out of that one.

Never mind the new storage - you have great beads
Sorry, but my eye got caught on the beads and not the box.

Re: New Storage
So Angeltroll, where can we get the storage box? I'm in the U.S. and I need it!
Great beads, BTW. I also checked out your beads first and then considered the box

It almost would have been worth lugging it to Concord just to see his reaction - LOL! But, I need one of those luggage carriers with wheels as it is rather heavy! As it was, my travel method of storage fascinated him!! I truly enjoyed visiting with you and your DH - he is such a good sport! Mine would have lost his mind if he had come along, as if that would ever happen!

Re: New Storage
Alicia ~ we loved your travel method of storage and DH actually gave up trying to estimate how many beads you had with you! It was a great day.
Beady-Eyed ~ The seller is Skyline9 on eBay and I'm happy to recommend him.

Re: New Storage
Wow, angeltroll, your beads are awesome! I love your storage box, too.
I have the wooden toolbox, too. I had rods put in three of the small drawers and little compartments in the other three small drawers and the two large drawers. If I had known what I was getting into, I would've had rods put in all the small drawers.

How did you have rods added to the small drawers? I am hoping to have DH cut some rods for me. Would you mind sharing a picture since a picture is worth a thousand words - LOL!

Re: New Storage
I've never posted pictures on here before, so I hope this works.....
Someone else did it for me, but it looks like a thin piece of wood with the slots cut in was glued in on the sides.

Re: New Storage
I've been keeping mine on double pointed knitting needles, as well as stitch holders. Hubby melted some grooves in the side of one of those plastic storage bins for me with a hot screwdriver so the needles could rest in those. Works ok, but not very attractive. I've been looking at these storage trays on etsyhttp://www.etsy.com/listing/98457207/display-and-storage-tray-for-lampwork but the wooden box from ebay looks MUCH nicer. I've sent the seller a message about adding some additional stacking boxes. I might have to get one of those.....

Re: New Storage
I succumbed and bought a set of these, I added an additional box. Now I have gone back and ordered two more of the bottom layers. These are WONDERFUL, thank you so much for the info. I have ALL my beads in one place now. No, it isn't full but I decided to go ahead and get it ready for the future!! Better to add layers NOW than not have them later if I need them!!!
