Galapagos Short-Eared Owl Empty Galapagos Short-Eared Owl

I usually watch nice quiet movies or documentaries while brushing my Lhasa girls and last week I saw part of a documentary about the Galapagos islands and its animals and the Galapgos Short-Eared Owl (Asio galapagoensis - sorry, I could not find an English wikipedia-article http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gal%C3%A1pagos-Ohreule) is a most interesting owl that only exists on the Galapagos islands. It is mostly active during the day. On one (or several, I unfortunately do not remember, anymore) island swallows have nests in little nooks that were made by volcanic eruptions on the ground, and the Galapagos owl has specialised itself in hunting the swallows while they land or start from their little cave-like dwellings and sometimes when the opening is big enough for the owl it even hunts inside and on foot or waits inside for the swallow to come back - a most unusual hunting strategy for an owl they said. It inspired me to change my „sea bracelet“ into a „Galapagos Short-Eared Owl“ one Smile

Ah, I loved the Galapagos Islands! I don't recall the short-eared owls, but there are so many interesting creatures there.

Your bracelet is a beauty. I'm sure if they could make the long trek across the ocean, they'd be hunting it out too! Smile

Love your Galapagos bracelet! It is an unusual hunting pattern for an owl, sounds like an interesting show.
